Palworld Resource Farming Guide: Automation Progression
Resource farming in Palworld 1.0 is not about finding one magic spot. It is about climbing an automation ladder in unlock order: each Technology tier hands you a structure that deletes one chore, and the correct move is almost always to build the newest rung instead of grinding an old one harder. Automate food and basics first, ore and ingots second, oil and World Tree materials last.
The automation progression ladder
The ladder below follows the actual Technology unlock tiers (per the Palworld wiki, verified 2026-08-08). Use it as a checklist: if a rung is unlocked but not running in a base, that is your next build.
| Stage | Tier | Structure | What it automates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early | 5 | Ranch | Wool, milk, eggs and similar drops from grazing Pals |
| Early | 7 | Logging Site / Stone Pit | Wood and Stone via Logging/Mining Pals |
| Early | 8 | Crusher | Fiber and Paldium Fragments from surplus wood and stone |
| Mid | 24 | Ore Mining Site | Ore at the base, no field trips |
| Mid | 26 | Power Generator | Electricity — the gate for everything after |
| Late | 50 | Crude Oil Extractor | Crude Oil on an oil field |
| Late | 51 | High Pressure Crude Oil Extractor | Crude Oil anywhere, at higher cost and power |
Base progression pushes you along the same spine: the Palbox mission list asks for a Power Generator around base level 11 and a Crude Oil Extractor around base level 20, per the wiki’s base mission table.
Early game: food, wood, stone, fiber
Two goals here: stop hand-feeding yourself, and stop hand-chopping.
- A Ranch turns spare Pals into a passive income of food ingredients and basic drops.
- Logging Site + Stone Pit convert Logging- and Mining-suited Pals into a steady wood/stone trickle.
- A Crusher turns that surplus into Fiber and Paldium Fragments, which are the real early bottleneck for arrows, spheres, and Palbox parts.
Do not over-build this stage. One of each structure, staffed, beats three of each with workers wandering between jobs.
Mid game: ore, coal, and ingots
Ore is where bases start specializing. Two working patterns:
- Ore Mining Site at the main base (tier 24) — simple, but it competes with other jobs for worker time.
- A dedicated mining base on overworld ore nodes — more setup, far more throughput, and it is the pattern the base role system is built around. 1.0 increased overworld ore distribution, which makes node-sited mining bases easier to place than they were in Early Access.
Either way, the smelting chain (ore → ingots) belongs near the ore, with Kindling Pals on furnaces and storage on the output side. The production base layout guide covers that flow in detail. Once the Power Generator lands at tier 26, electricity-hungry structures join the grid — plan generation before you need it, not after something stalls.
Late game: crude oil and beyond
Oil is the first resource where location stops being a given. The tier-50 Crude Oil Extractor must sit on an oil field, which usually means a dedicated oil base. The tier-51 High Pressure Crude Oil Extractor removes that requirement for a steep material and power price — the comparison page covers which one to build.
Oil feeds Plasteel, and Plasteel feeds late-game gear, so this rung gates your weapons and armor route more than any earlier structure does.
Special resources: World Tree materials
1.0’s endgame adds a parallel track: Radiant Gems and other World Tree materials used for Awakening. These do not come from base structures — they come from World Tree content — so no amount of base automation replaces them. The Radiant Gems farming guide and the World Tree guide cover that track.
Which Pals automate what
Every producing structure reads one stat: Work Suitability. Match the suit to the structure — Logging Pals on Logging Sites, Mining Pals on pits and nodes, Kindling Pals on furnaces, Electric Pals on generators — and keep food and beds close so they stay on task. A higher suitability level means faster work, so replacing a worker with a better-suited Pal is usually worth more than adding a second structure.
A full worker-by-worker ranking is its own topic (a base-Pals tier list is planned); until then, filter your Paldeck by the suitability you need and pick the highest level you own.
Bottom line
Automate in unlock order, specialize bases by role, and let the Technology tree set your priorities: Ranch and gathering sites early, mining and power mid, oil at 50+, World Tree materials whenever you can survive the trip. The ladder is short — the discipline is building each rung once, properly, instead of revisiting it forever.
Frequently asked questions
What should you automate first in Palworld?
Food and basic materials. A Ranch (tier 5) plus Logging Site and Stone Pit (tier 7) remove the earliest chores, and a Crusher (tier 8) converts surplus wood and stone into Fiber and Paldium Fragments.
What is the best way to farm resources in Palworld 1.0?
Automate in unlock order: ranching and gathering structures first, mining structures in the mid game, and oil extraction at tier 50+. Match each job to Pals with the right Work Suitability.
How do you automate ore farming in Palworld?
Unlock the Ore Mining Site at Technology tier 24 and staff it with Mining-suited Pals, or place a base directly on overworld ore nodes so working Pals harvest them automatically.
What resources do you need most in late game Palworld?
Crude Oil for Plasteel and late gear, plus World Tree materials such as Radiant Gems for Awakening. These arrive at Technology tier 50 and in the 1.0 endgame zones.
Can Pals farm resources automatically?
Yes. Any base structure that produces a resource runs on assigned Pals with the matching Work Suitability — Logging, Mining, Farming, Kindling, and so on — with no player input beyond food and beds.
